HOW THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST LEAGUE WILL BE SCORED:

Your 6 best flights during each month are used to determine winners of the various categories, which are OLC Points, FAI Triangle, Open Distance, Duration, and Altitude Gain.

At the end of September, a total of the the monthly (May thru September) scores is used to find the overall winner.

Anyone can calculate the scores.  This image shows how to calculate the current scores any time during the month.

HOW LEONARDO CALCULATES YOUR OLC SCORE:

Realize that triangles are worth more than a straight line flight! On a free flight, Leonardo calculates your distance by drawing a line through 5 points on your flight and using a multiplier of 1.5 points per kilometer.  An FAI triangle will be scored with factor of 2 points per kilometer. All other triangular routes will be scored with factor 1.75 per kilometer.  An FAI triangle is defined as: the shortest leg of the triangle must be at least 28% of the total triangle.

So if Leo can put three points on your track that make a triangle where the shortest leg is at least 28% of the total triangle, you get your distance times 2.  It is pretty easy to turn a free flight into an FAI triangle (big hint here!).
